Kinds of Transportation

You need to travel from your home to a place 40 miles (64 kilometers) away. Compare the different kinds of transportation you could use. Tell which method of travel you would choose. Give specific reasons for your choice.

For traveling to a place with 64 kilometers away I will have four mode choices, bike, private car, bus, and maybe multimodal traveling (let me suppose I must pass through the sea, then multimodal transportation will be bus and ferry or car and ferry). In the following paragraph, I will compare the merits and demerits of every available mode for making this trip.

The first option is traveling by bus. Traveling by bus has some advantages, for example, you do not need to drive, so you can sit on your seat and enjoy looking at the scenic views from the window. Also, when you are traveling by bus, departure time and arrival time are predetermined and you can plan for your trip more precisely. For me, the disadvantages of this kind of trip are: First, the seats are not so much convenient for me, as a tall person, because they are closed to each other. The second disadvantage is when you are unlucky and you may have a newborn fellow traveler, and he will cry all the way to the destination.

The second mode is traveling by my car. On one hand, using my car for traveling will give me the authority to select the time of trip, route, and speed of driving. Besides, I can decide where to stop on the way and take a rest. On the other hand, when I want to come back I will be tired and driving would be dangerous. So, either I should stay one night and return the next day, or return while I am exhausted, and as a result, endanger my life and other drivers.

Using a bike for 64 kilometers distance would take about 10-12 hours of biking. You should be a professional cyclist for this kind of traveling or stop and rest in the way so many times. Although this option is physically hard, you can enjoy the road and it would be a good exercise for you.

In my idea, the best way would be multimodal traveling. You can use a bus or your car till a ferry terminal and travel the remaining distance with a ferry. With this option, you can enjoy the appealing picturesque views on the way, both on the ground and over the sea.
